Boats & Birds - Gregory and the Hawk

I don't know what this song is really written about, but I can't think of a more fitting (and touching) song for the mother-child relationship. I can't hear this song without tearing up.

If you'll be my star
I'll be your sky
You can hide underneath me and come out at night
When I turn jet black and you show off your light
I live to let you shine
I live to let you shine

And you can sky-rocket away from me
And never come back if you find another galaxy
Far from here with more room to fly
Just leave me your stardust to remember you by

If you be my boat
I'll be your sea
The depth of pure blue just to probe curiosity
Ebbing and flowing and pushed by a breeze
I live to make you free
I live to make you free

But you can set sail to the west if you want to
And past the horizon till I can't even see you
Far from here where the beaches are wide
Just leave me your wake to remember you by

Twin Hijinks

Toilet training must be exhausting. The twins have napped every day this week, even though they stopped taking naps at the beginning of the summer.

Day 5 was another success (both girls stopped withholding!!), except that by now, they've started to go more frequently in hopes of receiving more frequent potty treats. I'm going to have to switch to stickers!

On another note, their bedroom came equipped with built in dressers and shelves which, aside from being handy space-savers, also lend themselves well to other purposes...
The difference between Natalie and Noelle is apparent: Noelle is much more timid and cautious, while Natalie exuberantly plunges into things headfirst. Noelle is shy around people and hides behind my legs, but Natalie is talkative. Natalie always has a twinkle, whereas Noelle usually looks slightly cross.

Happy Father's Day to my Dad

I have had so much going on this week that Father's Day completely snuck up on me. Ideally, I'd like to set up a visit with my dad, or at least get a card in the mail on time. I'd also like to force encourage the kids to write letters, make cards or send a little gift. However, none of those things happened. I don't have so much as a lousy tie for my husband. What I do have is this video card the kids and I made for GrandDad.

We love you!

You know you're a homeschooler when...

A friend's daughter put this together for an end-of-year homeschool project. A couple of my kids (and myself) are sprinkled in there.

The first interview says "You know you're homeschooled when Life Skills class consists of DOING things rather than just working on project sheets..."

My Son, the Thespian

For those of you who don't care to see videos of Someone Else's Grandkid, turn back now!

Here is my oldest son Scott in three clips from their high school production of Funny Girl, posted here for family and friends who couldn't attend the show. The still photo in front of the American Flag is of Scott, Kurt (who played Nick Arnstein), and the musical director. There is a photo of Scott and his former kindergarten teacher, who is the beloved and devoted costume director, and the last photo is of Scott and his maternal grandmother.

When Life Gives You Choices....Choose Carrots

One of my favorite sayings is:
When life gives you a multiple-choice situation, and one of the choices is
sleep,
CHOOSE SLEEP!

We were overcome by cold & flu season this month.

When Theresa was done with her nap on the couch, she blearily stumbled upstairs and crawled into the babies' bed for her next nap.

Even Noelle, who is usually sleep-retardant, fell prey.

Not even Scott was able to withstand it.

And finally, a video.

I must apologize for the video quality -
we love this house, but it has the
poorest. lighting. ever.

It's on our to-do list.

Anyway, about this video.

"No, girls, we can't afford any toys this year.

Just go play with your carrots."

Breathtaking: Watching Wall-E with my oldest daughter, hearing her say "Awwww, they're holding hands!" at the end.

Photostory: Noelle

Mom: Hmmm...she's sitting pretty, cuddling a baby doll,
with her FIRST french braid EVER.

What an opportunity!

Noelle: What's that? Did I just hear the camera turn on?
Oh, no no no no....

Shun the camera! Shunnnnnnn!
Oh, no, you do NOT!

I'm outta here!

I'll just cut through here...

Oh, snap.

You're pretty fast for an old lady, Mom.

Hey Andy, I guess I sh
ould have told you about the puppy...

hmmm...I think my husband ought to leave me a comment now and then, seeings as I do this for him when he's away @ work...

And finally, I got my first award today! It's a Great Attitude / Gratitude Award and it's in the sidebar - a lemonade stand. Is that for when life gives you lemons? Could be... Anyway, I am very pleased and want to thank C for her consideration. She is also an optimistic woman with a great attitude.

Our twins turn 2 today!!

Natalie & Noelle

Watching Veggietales 3 inches from the screen again...
I can't believe it, but Natalie's almost 2 inches taller than Noelle.

Sampling the frosting, which was amazazing. So light and fluffy and easy to spread, and it didn't pick up any crumbs when I was spreading it. That was important because there were crumbly, cut edges on the cake from cutting out the shapes. It tasted exactly like marshmallow fluff. I just couldn't believe how easy it was.
Recipe is
here.

A close-up of the cakes.

A shot of the carnage that ensued...

Check out Natalie's face as Brian shows her a birthday card...

It was also a baby doll heaven. They received matching sets of baby dolls three separate times. Good thing they're crazy about babies right now. They also received a play baby stroller for Christmas, so they load up with as many babies as they can manage.

I don't even remember when this video was taken and I don't know where else to stick it, but it's a wonderful glimpse of what the babies are like as they're turning two. They do this kind of thing every day, and I'm so privileged to be a witness to it.

And finally, a photo montage of the twins' first two years.
I had so much fun (and spent too much time) making this! I especially love the first song, "Easy Livin," the lyrics for which are below the video. Don't feel like you have to watch the whole thing. It's LONG. I couldn't stop myself - I kept finding 'just one more' picture to include. It's mainly for us and the grandparents, anyway.

Living for you is easy living
It's easy to live when you're in love
And I'm so in love
There is nothing in life but you

I never regret the days I'm giving
They're easy to give when you're in love
I'm happy to do whatever I do for you

For you maybe I'm a fool
But it's fun
People say you rule me with one wave of your hand
Darling, it's grand
They just don't understand

Living for you is easy living
It's easy to live when you're in love
And I'm so in love
There's nothing in life but you

Video: Candle-Blowing Tryouts Today

With under three weeks to go until the big day, the twins have been practicing their birthday-candle blowing-out skills. This video shows that Natalie has mastered the art.
In fact, she's a candle-blowing MANIAC. Wish I could say the same for Noelle...They're also both getting good at singing the song. "Hap Boor-dee Na-Noelle" is the way Natalie says it. She calls herself Na-ee, and refers to herself and her twin as Na-Noelle. Noelle calls Natalie "Natnee' and refers to themselves as Na-Noelle. I guess maybe we say Natalie&Noelle too often? I call them by the wrong name so often that I just reduce the names to Noettalie and be done with it.

Video: My Kids Are Crazy

We have lived here for almost 5 months. You'd think the novelty would have worn off a little bit by now.

But no, they still do it.

Every day.

Several times.

Video: Backyard Carjacking

Natalie is in the driver's seat, and Noelle wants in. And she gets in, too. Little stinker.

Cooperative play, my eye.

Summer videos

So this is how it goes...I don't post for 3 weeks, then I post 5 times in one day. ANYWAY, I tried to upload videos to Snapfish to share with my mom, but there was no audio attached, only static. So I'm going to post them here instead. Snapfish can stick it in their ear.

This is going to take a year.....

These first ones are of the kids at swim practice:

Brian's breast stroke

Conor's freestyle

Clare's breast, back, free and handstand

Clare's butterfly

Theresa

Theresa & Twins

Oh, and I was right . . . it DID take a year.

Video: Ring Around the Rosy

Sarah tried to teach the twins how to play Ring Around The Rosy a few months ago, but this week it just clicked with them and they started to play by themselves.

Speaking of Sarah, this was taken today. She's usually a pasty white, so she just lives for the first weeks of summer to finally get some color.

The twins were sitting together today, holding a small bottle of lotion and taking turns licking it off their fingers. Check out the look on Noelle's face when she got caught!

This is me (Michele) and Theresa yesterday after swim practice.
And this one, of Clare and Theresa, was taken a week ago at Knoebel's, our awesome local amusement park. www.knoebels.com

Video: Natalie going nutsy

This was one of the first videos I ever made with my digital camera, before I knew what I was doing. I didn't know how dark it would turn out, but I kept it anyway.
